The Sculpture

The P-51 sculpture that was installed at the Town Hall of Monument is incredible. It is 11 feet tall, 7 feet wide, 6 feet front to back, and it weighs over 2,000 pounds.

The sculpture was made by ROBERT HENDERSON.   Mr. Henderson was a pilot who also got into sculpting.  Since he was interested in aviation, he made plane sculptures and earned the title "The Warbird Sculptor".  His studio was Canyon City, Colorado, where he worked for 35 years until his passing on September 6th, 2023

Henderson has made many pieces, some for John Denver, Walter Cronkite, and Mario Andretti. Also having a collection at the Air Force Academy also known as his "Study Hall Collection" As it has many warbirds, including the P51, B17, P38, P47, and many more artworks there.

This statue is very similar to the one at his study hall collection on the Air Force Academy, just being a little smaller than the one on base.

The sculpture is big, but it fits perfectly in the corner spot at the Town Hall of Monument.  And a plaque that will go on the front will provide information about the P-51, honor Col Earl Depner, Robert Henderson and also honor ALL pilots that made the sacrifices they did during WW2. Also including side plaques that have the journey of the project and a donors list, as there were a lot of them.

The statue was installed in December of 2024, and dedicated to the Town of Monument on June 8th, 2025.
